I’m Amos Yee. I write and make videos exploring how to live a meaningful life as an Outsider of Singapore. So mostly I write about my life and give social and political commentary on Singapore, with a bit of self-help and movie analysis (the number of topics I’m exploring seem to be gradually expanding though).
I was born in 1998 in Singapore. I’m Chinese (though I speak and seem more American than Chinese). I’m part of all religions that reduce suffering. I’m politically an Anarchist (aka a libertarian socialist, aka an Anarcho-Communist). Personality type: INTP. I’m Bisexual Male (he/him), though I think my huge preference is still for disney princess looking females. I finished Secondary School, then decided to discontinue school. Writing and making videos is my full-time profession. I consume all kinds of media, from movies to anime to video games (few of my favorites: lost in translation, march comes in like a lion and persona 5). Weekly I do meditation, yoga and weightlifting.
I’m most well-known for getting arrested for criticising the Singapore Government. And for my views defending pedophilia, and being arrested for exchanging nude pictures with a 14-year-old girlfriend when I was 20. I’ve never regretted any of the times I’ve been to prison, and that principle transfers over to my work. Even if there’s a risk of hate, danger, prison or even death, I will give you uncompromising honesty, and never sugarcoat or censor my words.
I aim to create work that’s a full expression of myself. About things I’m most concerned with. In a style that most represents me. That might not have the broadest appeal, but it will hopefully deeply connect with an audience that have shared the same experiences and thoughts and feelings that I have. I know you’re out there
