The Plan to Get Every Singaporean Free Healthcare
Time to heal Singapore. Free healthcare for all!
The money we can get from removing National Service and cutting overall Military costs by half, is 10 billion dollars a year. We just need to spend 7 billion dollars more a year on healthcare , and everyone in Singapore can afford healthcare, and never delay treatment again. Essential and emergency services will be completely free, and other services heavily subsidised.
Of course we all know the consequences of having expensive, unaffordable healthcare in Singapore right? Hundreds of thousands Singaporeans delay or don’t get healthcare because of high costs of medical treatment. So probably hundreds, maybe thousands of Singaporeans die every year because of a lack of affordable healthcare. And even if you don’t die from delaying treatment, you’ll live with preventable pain like a painful tooth, mental health issues, back pain…. Illnesses that could have been solved with 300 dollars of consultation and medication, eventually need thousands or tens of thousands of dollars to fix. There’s stress and anxiety from thinking of and anticipating the expensive healthcare bill (especially for the poor). The financial suffering of medical costs that will make you cut back on food and housing. Healthcare problems might cause people to lose their job, stop socialising, become disabled…. And eventually you might die prematurely because of the added suffering when you could have lived 20 or 30 years longer.
We can fix all of that, by just spending 7 billion dollars more a year on healthcare. And we can easily afford that by removing National Service completely.
Bear in mind, not every single healthcare service will be free, that’ll be way too expensive. Essential services will be completely free (like GP visits, emergency treatments or treatments for serious illnesses). Other important services will be heavily subsidised depending on income level. And luxury services like luxury hospitals or cosmetic surgery, will have no subsidies. So the healthcare plan is not expensive, will minimise long wait lines and overuse because not everything is free, and will ensure everyone no matter their income level, can afford necessary medical treatment.
Basically with this healthcare plan, a regular person will save thousands of dollars a year on healthcare, and a person with a major illness will save tens of thousands. We can do this.
